Polyglyceryl-6 oleate (INCI: Polyglyceryl-6 Oleate) is a non-ionic, plant-derived emulsifier made from polyglycerol and oleic acid. In a formula it binds the oil phase to the water phase, and in cleansing oils it helps lift away grime gently on contact with water. This is a functional ingredient, not a care active. Its job is emulsion structure and gentle cleansing. Judging it as an active does not fit, since it is not meant to treat the skin. Topically it is not systemically relevant, so it can be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding without concern. Tolerance is high, with low irritation and allergy potential, and its mildness makes it suitable for sensitive skin. Its comedogenicity is very low (level 1), so it is rarely a problem, though on very oily, acne-prone skin it is worth watching the response.
