In cosmetics it is a technical component: it adjusts and stabilizes the formula pH and sometimes binds trace metal ions that speed up product spoilage. It is added in small amounts. It is a functional component, not a skincare active. In a finished product with adjusted pH it is present in a safe form and concentration. Pregnancy safety. As a pH adjuster in the final product it is systemically negligible, with no evidence of harm. It can be used during pregnancy and lactation. Tolerance.
