Synthetic polymer of the polyacrylate class. Functions as a thickener and emulsion stabiliser. Produces gels and creams with a characteristic silky texture and holds water. Common in serums and lightweight moisturisers.
Topical application
BLimited evidence. One RCT or several controlled studies with limitations.
Functional ingredient. There are no clinical data for active skin effects because none are expected. CIR safety assessments are favourable.
Sodium Polyacryloyldimethyl Taurate is a synthetic anionic polymer of the polyacrylate class. Used as a thickener and emulsion stabiliser. Mechanism. In water it forms a three-dimensional network that holds water and gives the formula a gel structure. Unlike carbomers it needs no alkaline neutralisation and works stably across a wide pH range (3-10). Delivers a characteristic silky texture and easy spread on skin. Where applied. Serums, lightweight gels, face fluids, eye-area products. Often appears in clear gel-serums with hyaluronic acid. In Spain – a popular thickener in Sesderma, Isdin, Mesoestetic formulas. Safety. CIR confirmed safety as a functional polymer. The molecule is too large to penetrate the stratum corneum, so there is no systemic action. Non-sensitizing, non-comedogenic. Pregnancy and lactation – safe.
