Hydrochloric Acid is a water solution of hydrogen chloride. INCI: Hydrochloric Acid. In cosmetics it is a technical pH adjuster: it is added in very small amounts to lower the acidity of a formula to the target value. It stays on the label even when fully neutralized during manufacturing. It is a functional component, not a skincare active. In the finished product it is not present as an acid at a hazardous concentration; its job is to bring pH into a skin-safe range. Pregnancy safety. As a pH adjuster in the final product it is systemically negligible, with no evidence of harm. It can be used during pregnancy and lactation. Tolerance. In a finished product with adjusted pH the irritation potential is low.
