A mild functional emulsifier. Safe.
Polyglyceryl-4 Laurate/Succinate (INCI identical) is a plant-derived emulsifier based on polyglycerol. Its job in a formula is structural: it binds the oil and water phases and keeps a creamy, stable texture. On efficacy, let me be clear. This is a functional ingredient, not a skincare active: it does not treat the skin, it makes the product homogeneous and pleasant to apply. It belongs to the group of emulsifiers regarded as mild, a common alternative to ethoxylated ones. By its nature and topical use it has no systemic relevance, so its use during pregnancy and breastfeeding is fine. Tolerance is good: low irritation and allergy potential, suitable for sensitive skin. Like any emulsifier, its behaviour depends on the rest of the formula, but on its own it is a quiet, well-accepted ingredient.
