Sodium Stearate is the sodium salt of stearic acid, essentially a soap. INCI: Sodium Stearate. In a formula it works as a gelling agent, thickener, and emulsifier: it structures solid formats (such as stick deodorants and soap), raises viscosity, and helps bind oil and water. It is a functional component, not a skincare active. In soap formulas it provides hardness and cleansing properties. Pregnancy safety. Systemic absorption through intact skin is negligible and there is no evidence of harm. It can be used during pregnancy and lactation. Tolerance. In a formula with adjusted pH the irritation potential is low, but soap formulas with an alkaline pH can dry out dry and sensitive skin.
