Polyglyceryl-2 laurate (INCI Polyglyceryl-2 Laurate) is a mild emulsifier derived from glycerin and lauric acid. Its job in a formula is to bind water and oil stably, and it is often chosen for products aimed at sensitive skin thanks to its gentle nature. It is a functional ingredient, not a care active. It does not treat skin; it keeps the emulsion uniform and pleasant. In that role it performs well and allows softer formulas than harsher emulsifiers would. Systemic exposure from topical use is negligible, so it can be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Tolerance is high: irritation and allergy risk are low, suitable for sensitive and reactive skin. It does not dry the skin and is not linked to pore clogging in normal use.
