Polysaccharide from sorbitol fermentation by Sphingomonas elodea. Forms a thin smooth film on skin, boosts surface smoothness, holds moisture and acts as a mild prebiotic.
Topical application
CWeak evidence. In vitro data, open-label studies, or expert consensus.
Safe film former and humectant. Skin affinity is good, reactions are rare.
Biosaccharide Gum-1 is a natural polysaccharide produced by fermenting sorbitol with the bacterium Sphingomonas elodea (formerly Pseudomonas elodea). Composed of glucuronic acid, rhamnose, and fucose in a 2:2:1 ratio. Mechanism. On skin it forms a thin smooth film with a 'soft focus' sensory effect: the surface looks visually more even and wrinkles appear less prominent due to optical levelling. Binds water in the stratum corneum (humectant) and works as a mild prebiotic – supports the skin microbiome by selectively feeding commensal bacteria. Some fucose is used by keratinocytes to build cell-surface glycoproteins. Where applied. Serums, creams, pre- and postbiotic lines, makeup primers. Concentration 0.1–3%. In Spain part of Mesoestetic Hydra Vital, Sesderma Sensyses, Filorga Time-Filler. Often in lines claiming an 'instant smoothing' effect. Evidence base. Few direct high-tier clinical RCTs. Most data are studies by the manufacturer Solabia (Fucogel) showing improved hydration, smoothness, and lower irritation at 1–2% over 4–8 weeks. Indirect support via related polysaccharides and film-formers. Safety. Hypoallergenic, non-comedogenic, non-irritating. No direct CIR monograph, but the polysaccharide family at cosmetic concentrations is considered safe. No systemic absorption through intact skin – the molecule is too large. Pregnancy and lactation – safe topically. Used without restriction. Particularly suitable for. Dry and dehydrated skin, sensitive skin, post-procedure recovery, makeup primer. A good component of pre- and postbiotic lines. Not a standalone anti-age active.

The Evigrade extension adds an evidence panel to Wildberries, Goldapple, Letu, iHerb, Sephora and 12 more stores. This ingredient and every other one in the product show evidence-tier, allergen risk and pregnancy/lactation flags at a glance.
Biosaccharide Gum-1 is considered safe during pregnancy at typical cosmetic concentrations. Systemic absorption through the skin is minimal.
Biosaccharide Gum-1 suits: normal, dry, oily, combination, sensitive.
