It softens skin, helps retain water, and gives a flexible, long-wearing finish, useful in lip products, makeup, and formulas that need to last. This is a functional ingredient, not an active. It works on texture and feel: it leaves the surface soft and forms a layer that improves product wear. It has no proven corrective effect on wrinkles or tone. It acts only at the skin surface, with no meaningful systemic absorption, so its use during pregnancy and breastfeeding is fine. Tolerance is good: low irritation potential and low allergy risk. Comedogenicity is moderate-to-low (2), worth noting on oily or acne-prone skin, especially in occlusive formulas. On normal sensitive skin it usually sits well.
