Laureth-23 (INCI: Laureth-23) is a nonionic emulsifier and solubilizer. In a formula it binds oil and water phases and dissolves poorly soluble components such as fragrances or oils, keeping the product uniform and clear where needed. This is a functional ingredient, not a treatment active. Its job is formula structure and compatibility, with no effect of its own on wrinkles, pigmentation or barrier. Topically its systemic relevance is negligible, so it can be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding without special restriction. Tolerance is good. Irritation and allergy potential are low, suitable for sensitive skin. As a mild surfactant it can dry slightly with heavy use on very reactive skin, but at in-use doses most people notice no reaction; it is not linked to clogged pores.
