Stable ester form of vitamin E. Skin enzymes release active tocopherol. Less allergenic than pure tocopherol and more shelf-stable.
Topical application
CWeak evidence. In vitro data, open-label studies, or expert consensus.
Antioxidant potential depends on the rate of conversion to tocopherol in skin. In vitro and small clinical studies confirm photoprotective effects when combined with vitamin C. Standalone anti-aging efficacy not proven by large RCTs.
Tocopheryl Acetate (vitamin E acetate) is a stable ester form of alpha-tocopherol (vitamin E). On the skin it is hydrolyzed by enzymes into active alpha-tocopherol – a potent lipid-soluble antioxidant. Where applied. Anti-aging creams and serums (0.1-5%), dry-skin products, after-sun and sunburn products, shampoos and conditioners. Often combined with vitamin C (synergistic antioxidant effect, C-E vitamin recycling), ferulic acid. Popular in Spain in Sesderma Hidraderm Aqua, Vichy Lift Activ. Evidence base. Alpha-tocopherol scavenges free radicals and lipid peroxidation in cell membranes, protects against UV-induced photoaging. The combination of 15% vitamin C and 0.5% ferulic acid (SkinCeuticals C E Ferulic) is synergistic – increases photoprotection 8-fold versus single components (Murray 2008). Safety. CIR confirmed safety. Irritation is rare. Non-comedogenic at concentrations up to 5%. Systemic absorption through intact skin has been described at high concentrations and prolonged use but is clinically insignificant. Contact dermatitis. Allergic contact dermatitis to tocopheryl acetate has been described in 0.5-1% of patients – the ingredient is in the North American patch-test series for allergens. Sensitivity is higher in eczema. Pregnancy and lactation – safe. Acceptable at any stage. High oral doses (over 400 IU/day) in pregnancy increase complication risk, but topical cosmetic use is safe. Alternatives. Alpha-tocopherol (un-esterified form – more active but less stable), tocotrienols (related compounds with stronger antioxidant activity).

The Evigrade extension adds an evidence panel to Wildberries, Goldapple, Letu, iHerb, Sephora and 12 more stores. This ingredient and every other one in the product show evidence-tier, allergen risk and pregnancy/lactation flags at a glance.
Tocopheryl Acetate is considered safe during pregnancy at typical cosmetic concentrations. Systemic absorption through the skin is minimal.
