In a formula it works as a fragrance component: it shapes the product's aroma and is sometimes used in small amounts to adjust the smell of a formula. This is a functional fragrance ingredient, not a care active. It does not affect the skin condition; its job is the product's scent. Do not expect a skincare effect from it. Applied topically at permitted cosmetic levels benzaldehyde has no systemic relevance, so it can be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding. On tolerance, honestly: irritation itself is low, but allergy potential is medium. Benzaldehyde is among the aroma substances that can trigger a contact reaction in sensitised people. Most have no reaction, but with sensitive or allergy-prone skin it is worth watching fragranced products and patch-testing on a small area if needed.
