CI 60730 (INCI CI 60730) is a synthetic violet dye from the anthraquinone group, also known as Ext. Violet 2. In a formula it works as a decorative ingredient: it gives the product a violet tint. It appears in shampoos, gels, bath products and colour cosmetics. This is a functional colourant, not a care active. It does not affect the skin condition in a finished formula; its role is purely visual, the colour of the product. Applied topically at permitted cosmetic levels the dye has no systemic relevance, so it can be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding. On tolerance, honestly: irritation itself is low, but allergy potential is medium. Synthetic dyes can cause a contact reaction in some sensitised people. Most people have no reaction, but with allergy-prone or reactive skin it is worth checking the ingredient list and patch-testing the product on a small area if needed.
