CI 14720, known as Red 33, is a synthetic cosmetic colorant in a red shade. Its only function is to add color to a product, whether a lipstick, a tinted cream or a toiletry. It plays no part in skincare. This is a purely functional, decorative ingredient, not an active. It does not hydrate or work on wrinkles or pigmentation; it serves only an aesthetic role in the formula. For topical use it has no systemic relevance, so it can be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding. General tolerance is good, but allergy potential is moderate: in people sensitized to this type of dye a contact reaction can appear. Most people have no trouble, and those with skin reactive to dyes would do well to patch test first.
