A cosmetic colorant. Safe at permitted levels.
CI 15850 (Red 6 Lake) is a red cosmetic colorant in lake form. In minimal amounts it tints lipsticks, blushes and other color products. It has no skincare function: its only role is to add shade. As an active there is nothing to assess, because it is not one. It is a functional color component approved for cosmetics in the EU within its intended uses and limits. During pregnancy and breastfeeding it is fine to use. On skin, applied topically, it has no systemic relevance. On tolerance, an honest note: irritation is low, but allergy potential is medium. Most people do not react, though on skin already sensitized to azo dyes a contact reaction is possible. If you have a history of dye allergy, it is worth watching.
