CI 15985 is a synthetic azo dye, also known as Yellow 6 (Sunset Yellow). The five-digit CI index is a number from the international Colour Index catalogue. INCI: CI 15985. In a formula it gives the product a yellow-orange shade. It is a colorant, not a skincare active. It does not act on skin and is added to the formula for color at low concentrations. Regulation. In the EU, cosmetic colorants are governed by Annex IV of Regulation 1223/2009 with use restrictions; CI 15985 is on that list. Tolerance. Irritation potential is low. Azo dyes are occasional contact allergens, so people prone to dye reactions should keep this in mind. Pregnancy safety: trace amounts, systemically negligible.
