CI 15850 (Red 7 Lake) is an insoluble lake form of a synthetic azo dye. INCI: CI 15850. In a formula it gives a red-pink shade; the lake form makes the color durable and opaque, so it is widely used in lipsticks, blushes, and color cosmetics. It is a colorant, not a skincare active. It does not act on skin and is added to the formula for color. Regulation and tolerance. In the EU, cosmetic colorants are governed by Annex IV of Regulation 1223/2009 with restrictions. Irritation potential is low, but azo dyes are occasional contact allergens, so people prone to dye reactions should keep this in mind. Pregnancy safety. Used in small amounts, systemically negligible.
