In a formula it stabilizes the pH, and it is also linked to support of natural exfoliation: HEPES helps the enzymes that break the bonds between dead stratum-corneum cells, so it is added to renewing and tone-evening products. It is a functional component with a mild desquamation-support effect rather than a potent acid exfoliant. Pregnancy safety. At cosmetic concentrations topical use is systemically negligible, with no evidence of harm. It can be used during pregnancy and lactation. Tolerance.
