A functional mineral abrasive. Safe in gentle formulas.
Pumice (INCI: Pumice) is a natural, porous, abrasive volcanic mineral. In cosmetics it provides mechanical exfoliation in cleansers and body scrubs, removing dead cells and roughness by friction. This is a functional ingredient with a physical role, not a care active. It does not nourish or treat the skin; its value is in mechanical polishing. As a physical scrub it works well on thick areas like feet and elbows, but on the face it should be used gently. Topically it is inert and not systemically relevant, so it can be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding without concern. Irritation and allergy potential are low. The real risk is not allergic but mechanical: with a large particle or hard rubbing it can cause micro-abrasions. In fine-grain formulas used gently it is well tolerated, including on sensitive skin.
