CI 73360 (Red 30) is a cosmetic colourant in a red shade from the indigoid group. Its only function is to give the formula colour: lipsticks, blushes, polishes and makeup in general. It brings no care to the skin. This is a purely decorative functional component. It does not moisturise, treat or improve skin: its job is colour and nothing more. So its value depends on the product, not on an active cosmetic effect. Where it is needed it provides shade; beyond that, expect nothing from it. Applied topically it has no systemic relevance, so it can be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding. For tolerability the irritation potential is low, but the allergy potential is medium: in some people a colourant can trigger a contact reaction. Most people have no trouble, but anyone with reactive skin or a history of colourant allergy should patch-test it first on a small area.
