A functional waxy silicone. Safe.
C30-45 Alkyl Methicone is a long-chain, wax-like silicone, so at room temperature it sits as a solid. In a formula it works as a film former and oil-phase thickener: it lays down a water-resistant film, gives body to solid sticks and extends the wear of sunscreens. This is a functional ingredient, not a skincare active. It does not fix wrinkles or pigmentation; its job is texture, fixation and resistance to sweat and water. That role is well documented in cosmetic formulation. Applied topically it has no meaningful systemic absorption, so it can be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding without special restriction. Tolerance is high: low irritation and allergy potential, suitable for sensitive skin. Silicones of this type do not clog pores on their own, though on very oily skin a dense film can feel heavy.
