Ceteth-20 phosphate (INCI: Ceteth-20 Phosphate) is a phosphate-type emulsifying surfactant derived from ethoxylated cetyl alcohol. In a formula it binds the oil phase to the water phase, keeps a cream or lotion stable and helps spread the product evenly. This is a functional ingredient, not a skincare active. Its job is structural: it holds the emulsion and texture together, but it does not act on wrinkles, dark spots or acne. Read it that way on the label. Applied topically it has no systemic significance, so it can be used in pregnancy and breastfeeding. Tolerance is good. Irritation and allergy potential are low and it suits sensitive skin. Like any phosphate surfactant it could dry the skin somewhat at high levels, but at usual emulsifier doses it behaves mildly.
