Cetrimonium Chloride (INCI: Cetrimonium Chloride) is a cationic conditioner and antistatic agent. In a formula it smooths the surface of hair and skin, reduces static charge and helps stabilize emulsions, mostly in hair products and rinse-off creams. This is a functional ingredient, not a treatment active. It improves slip and finish but does not act on wrinkles, pigmentation or barrier. Its role is feel and product stability. At usual cosmetic concentrations its systemic relevance is negligible, so it can be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Tolerance at cosmetic doses is good. Irritation and allergy potential are low and it suits sensitive skin. At high concentrations cationics can irritate, but that does not apply to in-use doses; it is not linked to clogged pores.
