Dihydroxypropyl PEG-5 Linoleammonium Chloride is a cationic conditioner derived from linoleic acid. Its molecule carries a positive charge, so it binds to the negatively charged surface of skin and hair, forming a thin layer that softens the feel and limits water loss. In formulas it acts as a conditioning and supporting humectant agent. It is a functional component, not a treatment active. It does not fix wrinkles or pigment; its job is to improve glide, smoothness and the feel of the product. The linoleic acid fragment gives some affinity with the lipid barrier, but as a texture helper rather than a strong repair agent. For topical use it is not meaningfully absorbed, so it can be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding without restriction. Tolerance is good: both irritation and allergy potential are low. It suits sensitive skin. No comedogenicity rating is assigned and it appears at modest levels, so it rarely causes trouble on oily skin.
