PEG/PPG/Polybutylene Glycol-8/5/3 Glycerin (INCI of the same name) is a polymeric humectant and conditioner. In a formula it holds water and leaves a thin, smooth, soft film on skin that improves the feel of the product. Its role is functional – texture and surface hydration, not treatment. It gives a pleasant feel and some light hydration, but it does not act on wrinkles, pigment or the deeper barrier. In its role it performs well. Systemic exposure from topical use is negligible, so it can be used in pregnancy and breastfeeding. Tolerance is high: irritation and allergy risk are low, suitable for sensitive skin. It does not dry the skin and is not linked to pore clogging in normal use.
