Laurdimonium Hydroxypropyl Hydrolyzed Soy Protein is a hydrolyzed soy protein modified with a cationic group. That positive charge lets it cling to skin and hair, where it lays down a thin film, smooths the surface and helps hold water. It shows up in conditioners, hair masks and creams with a silky feel. This is a functional conditioning ingredient, not an active with biological action. It softens to the touch and improves combing, but it does not penetrate to rebuild the hair fiber or the skin's collagen. The effect sits on the surface and is cosmetic, useful but modest. With topical use its passage into the body is minimal, so you can use it during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Tolerance is high: irritation and allergy potential are both low, and it suits sensitive skin. Since it comes from soy, people with a known soy allergy should keep that in mind, though hydrolyzed proteins rarely trigger a skin reaction.
