Its positive charge lets it cling to the surface of skin and hair, where it smooths, gives a soft feel and forms a conditioning film. This is a functional ingredient, a conditioner and sensory agent, not a treatment active. It improves the feel and a smooth finish, but it does not act on wrinkles, pigment or acne. Topically it has no systemic relevance, so it can be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Good tolerance: low risk of irritation and allergy, suitable for sensitive skin. Although wheat-derived, in topical use the protein content does not pose the issue associated with the digestive route in people with celiac disease.
