A nourishing plant oil. Safe.
Corn oil (INCI: Zea Mays (Corn) Oil) is a plant oil high in linoleic acid, the fatty acid skin uses to maintain its barrier. In cosmetics it works as an emollient: it nourishes, softens and supports barrier function, especially on dry or dehydration-prone skin. Thanks to its linoleic-rich profile it is a useful emollient and a barrier-support component. It is not a striking active on its own, but it does its job well in creams and emulsions. Topically it has no systemic impact, so it can be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Tolerance is good and the allergy potential is low. Its comedogenicity is somewhat higher (3 out of 5), so on oily or acne-prone skin it can feel heavy; it is better kept for dry or normal skin while you watch the response.
