Sunflower seed oil unsaponifiables are the concentrated fraction of sunflower seed oil (Helianthus annuus) that does not turn into soap on saponification. INCI: Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil Unsaponifiables. This fraction gathers phytosterols, tocopherols, and other active lipids. In a formula it works as a barrier-support component and soothing agent: it supports the lipid barrier and reduces water loss and irritation. By concentration of active lipids it is a richer component than plain sunflower oil, though still not a potent active. Pregnancy safety. Topical use is systemically negligible, with no evidence of harm. It can be used during pregnancy and lactation. Tolerance. Irritation and allergen potential are low, suitable for dry and sensitive skin.
