About this ingredient

Hemp seed oil (Cannabis Sativa Seed Oil) is pressed from hemp seeds. Contains NO THC – the psychoactive part of the plant is in the resin glands of leaves and flowers, not seeds. Composition. Linoleic acid (~55%), alpha-linolenic (~17%), gamma-linolenic (~3%), oleic (~12%). Optimal omega-6/omega-3 ratio near 3:1 – not matched by any other plant oil. Where applied. Creams and serums for atopic, dry, and combination skin, balms, hair products, oral supplements. In Spain in Mádara, Weleda, Freshly Cosmetics. Evidence base. Callaway 2005 RCT in 20 atopic dermatitis patients over 20 weeks of 2 g/day oral intake: reduced dryness and itching. Direct topical RCTs are few; data rest on linoleic-acid-rich oils (Vaughn 2018) – barrier and TEWL improvement in atopy. Safety. CIR confirmed safety. Comedogenicity 0 on the Fulton scale – does not clog pores. Well tolerated by acne-prone and combination skin. Pregnancy and lactation – safe topically.
