Heptyl Undecylenate is a light, plant-derived emollient ester. Its INCI is Heptyl Undecylenate. In a formula it softens the skin, absorbs fast and leaves a dry feel, which makes it an alternative to volatile silicones. It is a functional textural component, not a treatment active. Its value is in the finish: it gives slip, a light feel and a non-greasy result. It does not correct wrinkles or pigment, so place it in its real role within the formula. Topically it has no systemic relevance, so it can be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Tolerance is good and irritation and allergy risk are low. Its comedogenicity is very low (around 1), so it fits oily or acne-prone skin well, as well as sensitive skin.
