INCI: Citrullus Lanatus Fruit Extract
A watermelon extract with amino acids and sugars. It draws in moisture and refreshes skin. Well tolerated.
Topical application
BLimited evidence. One RCT or several controlled studies with limitations.
A hydrating plant extract. Safe.
Citrullus Lanatus Fruit Extract (watermelon fruit extract) supplies amino acids, sugars and a little citrulline. In a formula it works as a light humectant: it helps draw water to the surface and leaves a fresh feel, handy in textures for dehydrated or heat-stressed skin. As an active it is a supporting component. The hydration is mild and short-lived, fine for reinforcing the water phase of gels and light emulsions. There is no solid data for anti-aging claims, so it is fairer to offer it as a refreshing, auxiliary humectant. Topical systemic uptake is negligible, so it can be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Tolerance is good: low irritation and allergy, suitable for sensitive skin. It has no meaningful comedogenic profile, so it suits oily or combination skin that wants weightless hydration.
