Helianthus Annuus Sprout Extract (sunflower sprout extract) comes from the germinated plant, richer in amino acids and young compounds than the mature seed. In a formula it works as a hydrating and soothing component, adding comfort to the skin. As an active it is a supporting component. The hydrating effect is mild and the soothing action depends on the specific extract composition, which varies between suppliers. It serves well to improve skin feel within a formula, but it is not a proven standalone anti-aging or repairing active. Topically the systemic contribution is negligible, so it can be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Tolerance is good: low irritation and allergy, suitable for sensitive skin. It has no meaningful comedogenic profile. As with most plant extracts, someone with a known allergy to the sunflower family can patch test first as a precaution.
