A hydrolysate that supports hydration. Safe.
Hydrolyzed Wheat Flour (INCI: Hydrolyzed Wheat Flour) is a hydrolysate of wheat protein and starch. The small fragments it yields hold water and form a light film, which gives surface hydration and a smoother skin feel. It is used in creams, masks and moisturizing products. As an active it is a supporting component. It improves comfort and the immediate look of the skin through its humectant and film-forming action, but the evidence for a deep benefit is modest. It does its texture and hydration job without promising miracles. For topical use it has no systemic relevance and can be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Tolerance is good, with low irritation potential and generally low allergy risk. Still, since it comes from wheat, people with a known wheat protein allergy should choose the formula carefully.
