Ethylhexyl methoxycrylene (INCI: Ethylhexyl Methoxycrylene) is a photostabiliser added to sunscreens. Its job is to protect other UV filters, such as avobenzone, from breaking down under light, so the protection stays more stable during exposure. This is a functional component of the formula, not a skincare active. It does not filter radiation itself: its role is to extend the working life of the filter system under the sun, and in that role it does a useful, well-defined technical job. In topical use it has no systemic relevance, so it can be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding without any foreseeable risk. Tolerance is good, with low irritation and allergy potential, suitable for sensitive skin. As with any sunscreen ingredient, someone already sensitised could react, but in practice trouble is rare.
