It binds the oil and water phases and gives a gentle, light, creamy texture typical of delicate emulsions. As an emulsifier it is a functional ingredient, not a treatment active. It makes a formula possible and stable, but on its own it does not act on wrinkles, pigmentation or barrier. Its value lies in product structure. Topically its systemic relevance is negligible, so it can be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding without restriction. Tolerance is good. Irritation and allergy potential are low, which makes it suitable for sensitive skin. Most people show no reaction, and it is not linked to clogged pores.
