In a formula it works as a humectant and conditioning agent: it attracts and holds water, gives skin softness and a non-greasy slip, and improves the sensorial feel of the formula. It is water-soluble, mild, and suits moisturizers, cleansers, and hair products. It is a functional humectant, not a lead active. Pregnancy safety. Systemic absorption through intact skin is low and there is no evidence of harm. It can be used during pregnancy and lactation. Tolerance. Irritation and allergen potential are low, suitable for sensitive skin. As with ethoxylated raw materials, the standard caveat about 1,4-dioxane removal in manufacturing applies.
