Myristyl malate (same INCI) is an emollient ester of malic acid and myristyl alcohol. It softens the skin, gives a velvety slip and improves the texture of creams and makeup. On efficacy, it is a functional emollient, not a treatment active. It works on the feel and finish of the formula. It does not deliver an anti-aging or brightening effect on its own. During pregnancy and breastfeeding it is fine to use topically. Tolerance is good: low irritation and low allergy potential, suitable for most skin types. One caveat: its comedogenicity is moderate, so oily and acne-prone skin should introduce it carefully and watch for clogged pores. On normal or dry skin it rarely causes trouble.
