PEG-20 castor oil (same INCI) is a non-ionic emulsifier and solubilizer based on ethoxylated castor oil. Its job is to dissolve oils, fragrances and oil-soluble actives within the water phase, which allows clear, stable formulas. It is a functional component, not a skincare active. It provides solubility and stability. The effect on skin comes from the other ingredients, not from this one. During pregnancy and breastfeeding it is fine to use topically. Tolerance is good: low irritation and low allergy potential, with a mild surfactant character. At use levels it suits sensitive skin and does not dry it out. An individual reaction is possible but uncommon.
