Nonionic solubilizer built from propylene- and ethylene-glycol units. Helps dissolve oils and fragrance in the water phase, often paired with PEG-40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil. No standalone effects, pregnancy-safe.
Topical application
BLimited evidence. One RCT or several controlled studies with limitations.
Functional nonionic solubilizer. Dissolves oils and fragrance into the water phase. No standalone effects.
PPG-26-Buteth-26 is a nonionic solubilizer. The molecule is built from a polypropylene-glycol block (about 26 units) and a polyethylene-glycol butyl ether (about 26 units). INCI: PPG-26-Buteth-26. In a formula it dissolves oils, essential oils, and fragrance into the water phase so the product stays clear and does not separate. It is often paired with PEG-40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil in micellar waters, toners, sprays, and fragranced products. Dose levels are low. Pregnancy safety. The molecule is large, penetrates intact skin poorly, and systemic absorption is negligible. No teratogenicity data of concern. It can be used during pregnancy and lactation. Tolerance. Irritation and allergen potential are low. It is a rinse-off or low-dose ingredient and behaves neutrally toward skin. As with ethoxylated raw materials, the standard caveat about 1,4-dioxane removal in manufacturing applies. The ingredient has no standalone cosmetic effects. It is a functional solubilizer of the formula.
