PEG/PPG-18/18 dimethicone (INCI: PEG/PPG-18/18 Dimethicone) is a silicone-based emulsifier. In formulas it stabilizes creams that combine oil and water and adds a silky slip, common in water-in-silicone emulsions and makeup bases. This is a functional ingredient, not a skincare active. Its value is holding the emulsion together and giving a light, pleasant texture; it does not treat skin problems. In its role it works very well. Topically it is essentially inert and not meaningfully absorbed, so it can be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Tolerance is good: irritation and allergy risk are both low. Silicone emulsifiers are known for being low-reactivity, so they fit even sensitive skin, where they add comfort without a heavy feel.
