Polyurethane-64 (INCI: Polyurethane-64) is a film-forming polymer. In a formula it creates a flexible, even layer on the skin that holds pigments and actives in place and adds wear resistance, useful in makeup and long-wear products. This is a purely functional ingredient, not a care active. It does not hydrate or treat the skin; its job is technical, giving an even finish and hold. Judging it as an active makes little sense, because that is not its role. Topically it is inert and not systemically relevant, so it can be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding without concern. Tolerance is high, with low irritation and allergy potential, suitable for sensitive skin. Since it stays on the surface and does not penetrate, it rarely causes reactions.
