Ethyl lauroyl arginate HCl (INCI: Ethyl Lauroyl Arginate HCl) is a preservative derived from arginine and lauric acid. It curbs the growth of bacteria, yeasts and molds, helping keep the product safe through its whole shelf life. It is a functional component, not a care active. Its job is to protect the formula from microbial contamination, not to treat skin. It often appears as part of a preservative system alongside other agents, in very low doses. Topically, at usual cosmetic concentrations, its systemic absorption is negligible, so it can be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Tolerance is high: low irritation potential and low allergy risk, fine for sensitive skin. It adds no comedogenic load. It is one of the gentler preservatives available, a useful option for formulas aimed at reactive skin.
