Ethylene/propylene/styrene copolymer (INCI: Ethylene/Propylene/Styrene Copolymer) is a synthetic polymer used as a texture agent. It thickens the oil phase, modifies slip and improves how the product spreads, especially in anhydrous formulas like balms, sticks and makeup. This is a functional component, not a skincare active. It does not interact with the skin; its role is to structure the formula and give a controlled feel. The benefit to the user is indirect, through a better application experience. Applied topically it has no meaningful systemic absorption, so its cosmetic use during pregnancy and breastfeeding is not a problem. Tolerance is high, with low irritation and allergy risk. As an inert high-molecular-weight polymer it is not meaningfully comedogenic and is comfortable on any skin type, including sensitive.
