In a formula it thickens the oil phase and forms a thin film that helps keep actives, pigments and sunscreen filters on the skin, improving water and sweat resistance. It is a functional texture component, not a skincare active. On its own it neither hydrates nor treats: it adds body, pleasant feel and longer product wear. That is why it appears often in makeup, sunscreens and long-lasting formulas, where it does its technical job well. Topically it has no systemic relevance, so it can be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Tolerance is high. Irritation and allergy are low, making it compatible with sensitive skin. Since it is film-forming, proper cleansing at the end of the day helps remove it fully.
