Sodium Caproyl Methyltaurate is a mild amino-acid surfactant from methyltaurine (a derivative of the amino acid taurine) and caproic acid (C6 medium-chain fatty acid). A cleansing component with low skin and mucosa irritation potential. Mechanism. Surfactant molecules surround skin lipids and grime, forming micelles that wash off with water. Differs from traditional lauryl sulfates by a short fatty chain and amino-acid residue – does not disrupt the stratum corneum intercellular lipid matrix and does not cause 'tight' dry feel after washing. Where applied. Mild cleansing gels, face mousses, sensitive-scalp shampoos, intimate hygiene products, cleansers for children and infants (5-20%). On the Spanish market – in Sesderma Hidraderm Cleanser, La Roche-Posay Toleriane Cleanser, Bioderma Sensibio Gel. Safety. EU CosIng permits use. CIR has not issued a standalone review, but mass-use experience is extensive. Hypoallergenic, non-irritating, non-comedogenic. Suitable for sensitive, acne-prone, atopic skin, rosacea patients.
