In a formula it cleanses by lifting sebum and impurities while leaving a conditioned finish, so it is used in gentle face washes and rinse-off products. On efficacy, this is a functional component, not a care active. Its job is cleansing and skin feel; it does not address specific skin concerns, so it is best judged by that technical role in the formula.
