PPG-12/SMDI Copolymer is a film-forming polymer of the polyurethane type. In a formula it builds a thin, flexible, water-resistant coating on the skin, which gives an even finish and helps hold moisture under that layer. It is used in long-wear products, sunscreens and creams with a uniform finish. This is a functional ingredient, not a treatment active. Its role is to structure the film and improve the product's wear and feel, not to give the skin biological benefit. It does that technical job well, but do not expect anti-aging or repair action. With topical use it has no systemic relevance, so you can use it during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Tolerance is good: irritation and allergy are both low, and it suits sensitive skin. Since it forms a film, a proper cleanse at the end of the day helps remove it fully.
