It stabilizes the oil phase, gives structure to oils and improves feel, which is useful in sticks, balms and anhydrous makeup formulas. This is a functional component, not a skincare active. It does not act on the skin; its job is technical, keeping the formula homogeneous and pleasant to apply. The user notices it through product consistency rather than a direct skin effect. Applied topically it has no meaningful systemic absorption, so it can be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding in cosmetic application. Tolerance is high, with low irritation and allergy risk. As an inert high-molecular-weight polymer it is not meaningfully comedogenic and suits any skin type, including sensitive.
