Silica cetyl silylate (INCI: Silica Cetyl Silylate) is a silica particle surface-modified with cetyl-type groups, which makes it more dispersible in the oil phase. In a formula it mattifies, absorbs sebum and improves the slip and silky feel of creams, primers and makeup. This is a functional, texture ingredient, not a skincare active. It works on the product's feel and finish: it cuts shine and smooths application, but it does not change wrinkles, tone or acne. Read it that way on the label. Given its inert nature and topical use, it raises no concerns in pregnancy or breastfeeding. Tolerance is high. Irritation and allergy potential are low, so it suits sensitive skin. As a sebum-absorbing particle it is usually comfortable even on combination and oily skin.
